WHAT THE SERVICE IS FOR:
The Larches offers a secure and caring future for elderly people who, for whatever reason, feel they would rather live in a homely, happy and friendly environment with others of their generation for companionship. They receive 24-hour care and attention as appropriate and their independence, dignity and privacy is respected.
WHAT IT SHOULD ACHIEVE:
Our quality services are professional and provide a caring, happy home for residents who are content in every way and are happy to spend the rest of their days with us.
RESIDENTS:
Our residents are elderly ladies and gentlemen who, due to their age or disabilities, need to have tender, loving care but wish to keep their dignity and as much independence as possible. All our rooms are accessible by lift to each floor. The lift is a five person lift and therefore takes wheelchairs and an attendant with ease. It is easy to use but should someone not be happy using it alone, our trained staff are always on hand to assist and give confidence. Some of our residents have become incontinent and should this happen, it is not our policy to ask them to move as we try to find the cause and treat it and give every assistance to help cope with this new and unfortunate condition. At The Larches our aim is to promote independence and in the past we have encouraged residents to return to their own homes once they feel well enough.
RANGE OF SERVICES:
Our service is designed for the elderly or disabled client or anyone of a specific age who requires additional care and support. We also aim to give support to caring relatives and to fill the gap of an absent carer. Our policy is to look after residents for the rest of their lives; however, there are exceptional circumstances when this is not possible. Were this to occur, family members would be fully informed and consulted with before any final decision was made regarding the resident.
OTHER SERVICES:
Hairdressers call weekly at the home, although some residents prefer to go to the local hairdresser and it is encouraged wherever practical to enhance independence. The library also calls on a regular basis enabling residents to choose from a wide selection of books. We also have a chiropodist calling every 4-6 weeks and eye tests are easily arranged. Shopping trips into town are a regular occurrence and staff are happy to accompany residents for coffee trips or just a drive around the countryside. Birthdays are celebrated every year for the residents with candles on cakes and staff to make their day special.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED IN FEES:
* Hairdresser - this is charged at the time the resident is attended to.
* Foot Care – if the resident chooses to use the services of our private foot care specialist, then they will be charged accordingly.
* Newspapers – if newspapers and other personal items are requested, these will be charged for accordingly and a receipt given, if required.
* Incontinence aids – if and when incontinence products are required, the cost will be met by the resident or their family, unless they have qualified through the Health Service.
*Telephone calls – all outgoing calls are charged monthly; a receipt for this is only given if requested.
ORGANISED ACTIVITIES:
We have an Activities Co-ordinator who offers quizzes, scrabble and other games to stimulate conversation, exercise and general good humour plus occasional outings. Life at The Larches is, as our residents say, ‘Home from Home’
ETHOS AND PHILOSOPHY:
Residents are encouraged to follow their own religious beliefs but for those who are either unable or do not wish to attend Church services, we have arranged with the local Ministers to call at the home on a regular basis and provide communion for those who wish to take it.
